Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday said no action would be initiated against Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayana Jena, who has courted controversy for his alleged involvement in a sex scandal and murder of a youth.
BJD leader Debasish Samantray said the party could not take action against the BMC Mayor as the matter is pending in court.
He said the opposition parties are trying to keep the issue alive as they do not have any other issue.
However, legal experts feel that the BJD can take action against its party leaders and it has nothing to do with the court.
“BJD president can take action against the party leaders. BMC Mayor has moved the court against NSUI president and Pradeep Pandey, not against BJD,” said experts.
Meanwhile, Congress and BJP have intensified their agitation against the BMC Mayor.
While Congress workers on Tuesday took out a rally here, some BJP activists hurled eggs at the residence of Mayor Ananta Narayana Jena.
The incident took place at around 5:30 a.m when the Mayor was present in the house. Some youths were holding BJP flags and shouting slogans demanding arrest and dismissal of the Mayor.
The activists hurled eggs at the nameplate, main gate and vehicle of the Mayor. They even hoisted the BJP party flag in front of his house.
“Four masked men came on two bikes like terrorists and hurled eggs at my house, They also abused me. Two of them started hurling eggs while two others video-graphed the incident, ” said the Mayor.
