Puri (Odisha): Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Friday set Guinness world record by creating tallest sandcastle at Puri beach here.
Sudarsan Pattnaik registered his name in Guinness Book of Records with the world’s tallest sandcastle.
Assisted by his students, Patnaik sculpted a 48.8-feet-high sandcastle at Puri sea beach here thereby breaking the previous world record of tallest sandcastle, which was 13.97 m (45 ft 10.25 in) tall created by Ted Siebert (USA) of the Sand Sculpture Company and a crew of 19 on behalf of Turkish Airlines, in Virginia Key Beach, Miami, Florida, USA, on 27 October, 2015.
After verifying all the criteria of the sand castle, official authority from Guinness World record Swapnil Dangarikar presented a certificate to Sudarsan as “The tallest sand castle was created by Sudarsan Pattnaik”.
Patnaik’s sand art bears the message of world peace along with faces of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela carved on it.
Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad padhy inaugurated the castle. Development Commissioner R Balakrishnnan, Puri District Collector Arabind Agrawal, Tourism Director Nitin Bhanudas Jawale also present.
Sudarsan and his forty-five students took about 9 days to prepare this sculpture-four days for preparation and 5 days for carving the castle.
He created this sculpture with theme of World Peace. After taking permission from Guinness World record, Sudarsan started the preparation from 2st February and as per the schedule he finished today.
“We are happy after breaking the previous Guinness world record. This achievement will encourage me to touch new milestones,” said a thrilled Sudarsan.
