Woman Maoist protests abortion, surrenders before police


Rayagada: Protesting against abortion, a woman cadre Maoist surrendered before police in Odisha’s Rayagada district alleging exploitation at Maoist camp.

She surrendered before police coincidentally on the occasion of the International Women’s Day here on Wednesday.

According to reports, Reena Mallick alias Laxmi, who was an aide of arrested dreaded Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, surrendered before Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP) K Siva Subramani citing that she was forced for abortion.

I joined the Maoist group in 2008 and was working for the Dalam division. I married to Maoist leader Bikas in 2011. However, decided to lay down my arms before the police as I was asked to abort my pregnancy. – Reena Mallick

Sources said, Reena is involved in several Maoist activities and has several cases against her at different police stations in Rayagada and other adjacent districts.
