Maoists abduct contractor from Odisha-Chhattisgarh border


Bhubaneswar: Maoists have burnt as many four vehicles at Bijapur on Malkangiri-Chhattisgarh border and abducted a contractor protesting a road project.

The vehicles burnt by Maoists were engaged in road construction work, according to reports.

The abducted contractor was identified as Vishal Kumar.

Police have reached the spot and started an investigation.

In another incident, a person was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live wire at Gorala under Sinapali police station in Nuapada district early this morning.

The deceased was identified as Sahadev Shah of nearby Chatiaguda village.

According to reports, Maoists had felled roadside trees to block the road in protest against movement of security personnel last night.

A live electric wire was hanging from the tree and was covered by leaves. The man came in contact with the wire while he was crossing the felled tree. He was electrocuted, and his dead body was found by some locals this morning.

Some Maoist leaflets were also found from the road.
