Bhubaneswar: Normal life in several parts of Odisha was affected due to Nor’wester rain accompanied with the thunderstorm on Wednesday.
Many people were seen stranded at the railway station and different bus stoppages as heavy rain lashed several parts of the state. People those who suffered most were the office-goers and daily commuters.
Rail services on Bhadrak-Bhubaneswar-Puri route were also affected after snapping of wires and signals stopped functioning due to Nor’wester rains.
The East Coast Railway cancelled 4 trains, partially cancelled 3 trains and controlled more than 10 trains at several places after overhead wire got damaged near Retang in Bhubaneswar due to squall.
Speaking about the rainfall in the Twin Cities of the state, IMD Bhubaneswar Director, Sarat Chandra Sahu said, “The cloud mark has already travelled through Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar and is now moving towards south due to which Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have been witnessing heavy rains since morning”.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre issued thunderstorm alert for nine districts – Dhenkanal, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh and Boudh till 1:30 PM today.
