Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued intense cold wave warning for Odisha in the next 24 hours with mercury dropping below normal across the state.
The IMD attributed the dip in the mercury to northerly winds. The intensity of cold is on the rise in interior Odisha.
Senior weather scientist of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Sudarshan Mishra said the dry and cold wind blowing from northern Himalayan range has resulted in biting cold across the state.
Due to this condition, temperature in most parts of the state has remained below normal, he added.
According to an IMD release, Daringbadi in Kandhamal district was the coldest place at 4 degree Celsius while Phulbani recorded 4.5 degree Celsius.
At least 17
places across the state recorded temperature below 10 degree Celsius.
