Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Rita Sahu won the Bijepur Assembly by-election in Odisha’s Bargarh district by a record margin of 97,990 votes on Thursday.
Rita Sahu has secured 1,35,957 votes while her nearest rival Sanat Gartia of the BJP got 37, 967 votes and Congress candidate managed to get only 5873 votes.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke to Rita Sahu over the phone and congratulated her for her huge historic win, breaking all records in Odisha’s electoral history.
The winning margin of BJD’s Rita Sahu in Bijepur by-election is the highest in the history of Odisha Assembly elections. The previous highest margin of 94555 was by Bishwa Bhushan Harichandan in 2000 Assembly elections.
The by-poll was held on October 21.
