Nurses serve as soldiers on frontline: SOA VP


Bhubaneswar: Nurses serve the society as soldiers on the frontline often making significant personal sacrifices, Ms. Saswati Das, Vice-President of Siksha ‘O’ Anusadhan (SOA), said on Friday.

“Nurses are known for their selfless service and sacrifices for which they are to be hailed,” Ms. Das said while speaking as chief guest at the concluding program of the International Nurses Week organised by the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, faculty of medicine of the SOA Deemed to be University here.

Ms. Das made particular reference to the role played by nurses in the health camps organised by SUM Hospital saying the organization of the nurses week was a tribute to the role played by them.

The program was organised ahead of the International Nurses Day celebrated on May 12. Dr. Mamata Acharya, Principal of the SCB Nursing College at Cuttack, who attended the program as chief speaker, urged the nurses to continue to serve the society with dedication and commitment.

Prof. (Dr.) Soumya Ranjan Dash, Dean in-charge of IMS and SUM Hospital and Prof. (Dr.) Pusparaj Samantasinghar, Medical Superintendent of the hospital who also addressed the gathering, described nurses as the backbone of the healthcare system.

Ms. Minati Mishra, Nursing Superintendent, presented the welcome address while Ms. Sobha Manjari Samal, Additional Nursing Superintendent, also spoke. Ms. Kaberi Rani Sahu, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, proposed the vote of thanks.
