Koraput: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today visited the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) facility in Koraput district, lauding its critical role in India’s aerospace and defense sectors.
Calling HAL a “premier aeronautical manufacturing company,” Pradhan noted that the Koraput facility holds the unique distinction of being among the few global units manufacturing aero engines for MiG and Sukhoi series aircraft. He praised HAL’s expanding capabilities in avionics, aerospace, defense, and allied sectors.
During his visit, Pradhan suggested the HAL leadership consider developing a robust MSME cluster around the Koraput unit.
“This initiative can create large-scale employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the local population, while integrating regional businesses into HAL’s supply chain,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of educational initiatives and proposed that HAL establish STEM Labs in schools across Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada. Additionally, he recommended a collaboration between HAL, IIT Madras, and the Central University of Odisha to offer diploma and undergraduate programs in aerospace, defense, and related fields—efforts aimed at nurturing local talent and innovation.
Pradhan commended the HAL Koraput division for its significant role in advancing self-reliance in defense and driving socio-economic development. He also appreciated its CSR initiatives, which promote sustainable development, including support for sports, skill-building, education, and green growth.
