Odisha panchayat polls: BJP continues to make inroads

Bhubaneswar: There is no stopping for the BJP with the party conquering new areas and demolishing its opposition in the panchayat polls in Odisha. The party continued to put up a great show in the third phase of panchayat elections.

While the BJD is in a shock as it is ceding seats to the BJP, the Congress, on the other hand, is sulking over the reason behind its dismal performance, except in Jharsuguda.

According to sources, BJP has won 68 of the 175 Zilla Parishad seats that went to the polls on Friday. The ruling BJD won 87 seats while Congress managed to get only 17.

At the end of third phase of the polls, the BJP has won 197 seats while BJD 287. The Congress was a distant third with 42 seats.
