CISF orders inquiry in Tata Steel incident at Kalinga Nagar

Bhubaneswar: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Monday ordered an inquiry into the Tata Steel incident where as many as 33 students and two teachers of a Sevashram school were thrashed by a CISF jawan.

Some Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans deployed at Tata Steel plant in Kalinga Nagar here allegedly thrashed the students and two teachers of a Sevashram school at Gobaraghati under Danagadi block in Jajpur district last night.

Protesting the attack by the security personnel, students and teachers of the school on Monday blocked the Duburi-Chandikhole NH-57 in front of the steel plant’s main gate demanding action against the accused CISF jawans.

“In the alleged beating of students’ case, CISF has already directed for an inquiry into the allegation. If anybody is found guilty, suitable action will be taken against the person concerned,” said a Tata Steel press release.

It said Tata Steel has always believed in the development of the community and are committed to maintaining cordial relationship with the local community.

“Several cases of stone pelting on security personnel have been observed near Government’ High School, Gobarghati located close to the boundary wall of Tata Steel Kalinganagar plant,” said the release.

Recently, on February 15, 2018, one student of the school was caught red-handed in the act of stone pelting and the local police were informed about it, it added.

“As per the statement of this student, many students, in association with outsiders resort to such nefarious activities in pursuit of their mala-fide intentions and at times indulge in stealing management property,” said Tata Steel.
