Odisha has received Rs 4,682 Cr from the Railway Budget 2016-17. It is the highest ever allocation to Odisha in Railway Budget. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu informed that Bhubaneswar Railway Station would be enabled with Wi-Fi by the end of March.
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha has received Rs 4,682 crore from the Railway Budget 2016-17 presented by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in parliament on Thursday. It is the highest ever allocation to Odisha in any railway budget.
Holding a press conference here, East Coast Railways (ECoR) general manager Rajiv Vishnoi said that the state had been allocated Rs 4,682 crore in the budget for various projects and infrastructure development.
He informed that Bhubaneswar railway station would be enabled with Wi-Fi by the end of March this year.
Five new lines have been proposed in the rail budget. These include Jeypore-Malkangiri, Jeypore-Nabarangpur, Banspani-Barbil, Berhampur-Sambalpur and Gandamunda-Rourkela.
The Odisha Assembly’s House Committee had sought the Railway Minister to allocate Rs 5000 crore to carry out infrastructure development in the sector. In the 2015-16 railway budget, Odisha had received an allocation of Rs 2,514.07 crore against its demand for Rs 3,200 crore.
