Sudarsan Creates Sand Art On ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Chanu Sharmila

Bhubaneswar: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand art on Manipur’s ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Chanu Sharmila, who is all set to end her fast on Tuesday.

She is on fast for the last 16 years demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Manipur.

Pattnaik has created the sand sculpture on ending of Irom Sharmila’s fast after 16 years, with the message “We salute your decision” at Puri beach of Odisha on Monday.

He has created a 4ft height sand sculpture of Irom Sharmila by using about 3tons of sand in it.

“We welcome the decision of the Iron lady through our sand sculpture,” said Sudarsan.

So far, Padma awardee Sudarsan has participated in more than 50 international sand sculpture championships and festivals around the world and won many prizes for the country. He always tries to give social messages through sand sculptures.
