Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday said they will knock the door of the court to get justice on the Mahanadi water sharing issue as the union government did not show any sincerity to resolve the issue.
“Even though we had urged the central government to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute, the centre extended its silent support to the Chhattisgarh government due to its political affiliation,” said Patnaik attending a meeting of BJD here.
The Chief Minister said he had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention on the issue.
The state government is yet to receive a reply from the Prime Minister, he added.
Maintaining that Mahanadi is the lifeline of Odisha people, he said no one can deprive the people of the water from the river.
He said the Congress and BJP are shedding crocodile tears over the Mahanadi and Polavarm issue while they have granted fund to Polavaram project and allowed construction of the barrages on the upper catchment of Mahanadi.
