Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to enhance the seating capacity of Kalinga Stadium from 5,000 to 15,000 ahead of FIH Hockey World League Final-2017 and Men’s World Cup-2018.

The state government has directed the officials concerned to do detailing of each of the activity and monitor those till completion of the tournament.

Recently, chief secretary held a meeting and reviewed the progress of preparations for the upcoming hockey matches.

He asked the officials to take all necessary steps for commissioning of the projects before the scheduled date.

Spending of 89.5 crores for both events

According to preliminary estimates, around Rs. 89.5 crores would be spent for organizing both the events.

It was decided that utilities and changing rooms for practicing players would be developed while entry and internal roads of the stadium will undergo an expansion. Public transport would be improved while special bus routes and trips would be planned by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with tourism department.

International food festivals and international open air cultural programs would also be organized. Besides, a special musket would be developed for branding the event along with Orissa tourism.
