Irate mob ransack Ainthapali Police Station over custodial death in Odisha


Sambalpur: Hundreds of locals including women ransacked the Ainthapali Police Station in Odisha’s Sambalpur and torched several vital documents protesting the custodial death of a theft accused on Friday.

They also torched vehicles parked at the police station.

A number of policemen were also injured during the attack as angry protesters resorted to stone pelting. They also did not spare the media persons who had gone to cover the incident. Several media persons injured during the incident.

The incident took place soon after angry family members of one Avinash Munda of Bhalupali area who died under police custody last night staged a road blockade before Ainthapali Police Station this morning.

While police claimed that the accused committed suicide, family members rejected it by alleging that he had been beaten to death.

After inspecting the body of the victim, his family members claimed that blood stains were found on his face and suspected to be caused by physical torture.

Notably, Ainthapali Police arrested Munda on Wednesday on charges of stealing mobile phone of a local in the village.

Meanwhile, Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora has ordered an HRPC inquiry into the incident following the NHRC guidelines.
