Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday urged Council of Architecture to grant approval for imparting five years Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) course in VSSUT, Burla and IGIT Sarang for the academic year 2016-17.
In a letter to the President of Council of Architecture, the Skill Development and Technical Education Department informed that five years B.Arch programme had been implemented in Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla and Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) Sarang since 2014-15.
In the previous years, they have admitted 81 and 68 students respectively in anticipation of approval of Council of Architecture.
“It is learnt that the Council had programmed to inspect both these Institutions last year but the same has not been undertaken as yet and as such, no approval has been accorded,” said the Department in the letter.
Recently, College of Engineering and Technology (CET) Bhubaneswar has got approval for B.Arch course with an intake capacity of 20 seats for the academic session 2016-17.
“Unless there is similar approval of Council of Architecture for VSSUT, Burla and IGIT, Sarang there will be difficulty in admission through JEE for the academic session 2016-17 leading to discontentment among the students,” read the letter.
“You are, therefore, requested to kindly intervene into the matter and take early steps for inspection of the B.Arch. programme of VSSUT, Burla and IGIT, Sarang and pending inspection, accord provisional approval for 60 seats each in favour of these two institutions for the academic session 2016-17,” it added.
